Pick a holiday or a date of your own and the calculator counts the days from your today – the date on your device, wherever you are. It also gives the weeks, the months, the working days and the weekends left, and the number of sleeps for anyone counting down with children.
Holidays that move are worked out for each year: Easter from the church calendar, Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day from their weekday rules. For a birthday or an anniversary, choose “A yearly date I pick”, enter the date once with any year, and it always finds the next one.

Other countries keep Mother’s Day on other dates – in much of Latin America and the Arab world it is a fixed day, in parts of Europe it follows other Sundays – so for those, choose “A date I pick”.
What each number means
- Days: midnights between today and the date. Tomorrow is 1 day away; the day itself shows “It’s today”.
- Weeks and days / months and days: the same span, broken up the way people say it (“7 weeks”, “1 month and 19 days”).
- Weekdays left: Monday to Friday after today and before the date. Public holidays are not taken off, because they differ from one country, state and school district to the next.
- Weekends: the Saturdays in between, each one the start of a weekend.
- Sleeps: nights to go, the same as days.
For dates in the past the calculator counts the days since, so it also answers “how long ago was…”. To count between two dates you choose, use days between dates; for the date of Easter in any year, when is Easter.

Frequently asked questions
How many days until Christmas?
Choose Christmas above: the count starts from today in your own time zone, so it changes at your midnight, not at a server's. From November 6, 2026, for example, it is 49 days; on December 24 it is 1 day, and on December 25 it says "It's today".
How many sleeps until Christmas?
The same as the number of days: one night between each day and the next. On Christmas Eve there is one sleep left. The calculator shows sleeps next to days for that reason.
When is Thanksgiving?
In the US, on the fourth Thursday of November: November 26 in 2026, November 25 in 2027 and November 23 in 2028. In Canada, on the second Monday of October: October 12, 2026 and October 11, 2027. Black Friday is the day after US Thanksgiving.
Does the countdown include today?
No: "days until" counts the midnights between now and the date, so tomorrow is 1 day away. Weekdays left count Monday to Friday after today and before the day itself, which is what you can still use for work or school.
